I’ve posted before about the value of taking a home inventory–listing everything you own so that you know what you have, use what you have, and don’t waste money or time buying what you already own–but there’s another good reason to take a home inventory: insurance.
If something happens to your home–fire, flood, burglary, you will need to take a home inventory, which means you’ll need to have a clear record of everything in your house. You’ll also need to know exactly how much it’s all worth so that you can be reimbursed in case anything unfortunate happens — because it’s always best to expect the best but be prepared for the worst.
Starting a Home Inventory
Now think about everything you own. Everything in your drawers, cupboards, and closets. All the tools in your garage and all your electronic gadgets. Your furniture, bedding, and towels. Even family heirlooms, keepsakes, and collectable items. How much do you think all of that stuff’s worth?
If the task sounds pretty daunting, don’t worry. I’ve found the top 15 apps to declutter and digitize your stuff based on popularity and positive reviews. All of the apps below have at least a 4-star rating and can help you take inventory, declutter, and digitize paper documents. Whether you’re taking inventory or just trying to tidy up, there’s an app that’ll get the job done!
