My wedding was perfect. Well, okay—it wasn’t perfect. It was nearly 100 degrees, there were swarms of mosquitoes surrounding the area, we ran out of wine and beer, and the caterers messed up the seating chart. But otherwise, it was perfect because it was our wedding day, and what is more beautiful and wonderful than the day you marry your soul mate?
I must admit, however, I felt very stressed out the morning of, but only because of a force I could not control: the weather. Our entire wedding—the ceremony, cocktail hour, the reception—was held outside. There was an option if it rained: we could move everyone inside the estate house on the property, but I was hoping we wouldn’t have to resort to that. It didn’t rain, thankfully.
— I prayed continually
— I drank green tea
— I meditated
— I woke up at 5am and ran a mile every morning the week of the wedding
Weddings are fun no matter what. Family and friends gather to witness a testimony of lifelong love and commitment. There’s food, wine, dancing, and music. Weddings reflect life: no matter how much you’ve done to ensure perfection and success, there are forces you cannot control that derail your plans. And yet weddings, like life, are still magical, beautiful, and fun—sometimes even because of those mishaps.
How did I combat the forces in my control? I got organized—super organized!
